Why would it be considered "anti-gay"?

2006-06-21 03:59:54 · update #1

There are plenty of straight people that go to the gay pride parades. They're showing their support.

I love to celebrate. I'd be there!!

I'd be the gay fairy in pink, not likely... but I would be the happy gay supporter of straight people and love.

It wouldn't offend me. It might irritate me a little, but not offend.

Gay pride parades exist for a reason, to give us one day a year to congregate, support, and party together without fear or homophobia to celebrate a part of ourselves that other people constantly sh*t upon. It exists to celebrate our common past and look with hope towards a better future. I don't think straight people really need that. If they did, I would support them 110%. When straight people are stared at in the streets, constantly misrepresented in the media, when politicians start making straightness a constiutional issue and preachers preach hell for straights from the pulpits and straights can't have the rights that gay people have, I will be right there, heading up the gay ally wing of the straight pride parade.

But lets be honest - that doesn't happen to straight people. When straight people have straight pride parades, they are doing it to make some kind of point that they can or should have them, which usually misses the point of WHY we have gay pride by a mile anyway. And that is irritating.

No why should it? Do you get offended when the Irish have their parade? Or the Puerto Ricans (which I am, and have been to and it it rocks!) have their parades?
People make me laugh when they say the gay pride parade is silly, but nobody has anything to say about the Thanksgiving day parade, or the Christmas day parade, Irish, Puerto Rican, Mardi Gras, or any other parade out there for people who want to celebrate who they are, what day it is, and just have a great time.
I go to all the parades when I can (I used to live in NYC) and I rocked 'em all.
And yes, I'm a lesbian and if they decided to have a straight pride parade, I'd go rock the hell out of that too!

I don't think people would be offended, but they might roll their eyes 'cause it's a silly idea. Every other parade is presumed to be straight and a lot of them don't let gays march in them. When straight people are excluded from marching, then they can have their own pride parade. Until then, there is no reason for a straight pride parade.

While Gay pride parades are trying to get the message across that there is nothing wrong with being gay, A straight pride parade would come across as anti-gay.

I'm gay and no, a straight pride parade would not offend me. Every parade aside from gay pride parades are for straights...been goin' on since the beginning of time.

I'm straight, but I'm not proud or ashamed or anything to be straight.

I think these "pride" parades are ridiculous. If you're gay (I pray for you), but go on and be gay and that's that/ You don' ave to march down a street to let everyone know you are gay. That's a cry for attention, and that means you are missing something in life. If you need THAT much attention, you are clearly lacking something.

So, yes, I am heterosexual, but don't think of ways to show how proud I am of being straight. I simply go to work, go to Church, try to live a solid Christian life, and spend quality time wth my wife and boy.

I see Straight parading their emotions daily in public...holding hands, kissing, cuddling, etc. I could care less, except sometimes it gets more than a little heavy. I get a kick out of straights screaming "we don't parade our sexuality in public, why do gays." Yea, Right! Tell me the last time you went anywhere and did not see some couple carrying one in one way or another, announcing to the world, "WE are sooooo in love."

I am straight. Have a straight pride parade should not offend anyone. It is ok to be proud of being straight or gay.

Having a straight pride parade would be politically the equivalent of having a European American history month here. just wouldn't be considered right

It wouldn't offend me, but it would seem pretty silly, considering that straight folks have a more privileged status in the U.S. than GLBTs do.

Traditionally, "pride" events have served to remove the stigma & shame that many minority groups feel from having been oppressed. It's a significant day in which to validate our pride, and that we're not alone. Why would straight people need to do that?

As for my sexual orientation, I am a lesbian.
