Why do you think this is? Important or Not

You're in a 750,000lb piece of metal that flys through the air. Even if it is not that important, wouldnt you want to take every precaution to prevent any slight bit of chance of crashing?

Use of electronic devices normally does not interfere with the plane's operating systems. However, a few can. Most importantly, though, use of those things during safety instruction is a distraction and people to not hear what they need to hear for the safety of EVERYBODY should something go wrong. Also, takeoff, and to a slightly lesser extent landing, is the most dangerous part of a flight, so having passengers alert and able to hear instructions is critical. Finally, if you refuse to turn off the device you can easily be removed from the airplane and arrested. Turn off the damned stuff and pay attention!

First of all, t/o and landing are the most dangerous times of a flight. Second of all, a cell phone or other device could interrupt the planes electronics due to the electrical signals the device is zinging around inside of it.

Now, do you want to be 50 feet off of the ground in a jumbo jet going 200 miles per hour when the pilot suddenly loses response to the aircraft?

Cell phones are required to be off for the entire flight. Other devices only during take off and landing. If they are on, cell phones are transmitting signals even when you are not using them. Other electronic devices are always producing electro-magnetic noise, even though they aren't designed to transmit signals.

Airplanes rely on navigational instruments such as Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receivers to know where they are and what their speed and direction are. If our electronics produce enough signal strength at the right frequencies, they can interfere with the planes navigational instruments and lead to errors in position, direction and speed. Take offs and landing are the most critical times to know exactly what the plane is doing. Therefore, they ask us to turn these devices off to make sure that they don't interfere.

This is because some studies have shown that those devices can send signals to the plane's navigation equipment that can confuse the flight computer. The plane can wind up off course or in some other kind of trouble.

The people who make cell phones and aerospace engineers are working together to find ways to make it possible to minimize the interference. And there's a lot of financial pressure to get it done...but the technology isn't ready yet.

Important

2006-06-21 03:48:24 · answer #6 · answered by cage 2 · 0 0

Its VERY IMPORTANT! why......allow me to explain.
When yr cell phone/laptop/whatever is functioning then it gives out radio waves which interrupt the aircrafts communication systems with the traffic control tower of the airport. This will lead to loss of data, inaccuracies etc incorporated in the aircrafts signals which get virtually jammed with the radio waves of yr phone, the traffic tower is hence 'confused'.To experience this, place your cell phone in charging mode next to a radio................see?!This aberration hence causes a massive problem which is very very critical during take off and landings..........a small hitch results in 200-300 people dead!!!!!!!!!!
besides airlines like QANTAS put a hefty fine or jail if a person is caught using a banned item during takeoff/landing..........you would'nt want that when you are about to fly to Hawaii on a vacation would you?!!!!!!!

not really important at all,,who cares if your phone plays havoc with all their electronic equipment and the plane loses its course then spirals totally out of control,,,crashing to the ground,,,,you will have made your call.

The satellite signals can get in the way of the equipment (radar, altitude meter etc.) and the pilot could not read them

Important, I dont know the technicalities of it, but its something with the transmition.
