The page after the title page (sometimes on the page before the table of contents) will have the dates the book was printed. If there is only one then it's a first edition.

Look for the string of numbers on the fly page. If all numbers are present, it's a first edition. If the "1" is missing, it's not.
Example: 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 or 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 are firsts
10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 or 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 are not.

**Rivers Run is not correct..if the "1" is MISSING, that means it has already moved into a second printing and is not a true first edition.

look inside - you will see something like this

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 or equivalent

if the 1 is missing - it is 1st edition

Read the small print on the first page, or on the spine of the book

take the book behind the second page ( by that i mean the second sheet of paper)...all the details will b printed ...the edition too..

its written on the 2nd or 3rd page to the left where details about publishers,etc r written
