340 days is the correct gestation period, mares however need to be comfortable when foaling so they can hold it in longer...horses can go for up to 13 months in foal but usually there is a reason for that, perhaps fescue toxicity. Gestation length also depends on the covering sire but it is usually around 340 days. Also I believe it is colts that have a longer gestation than fillies, but again it isn't that different.

My dad always said 11 months and one day for every year old the mare is. It generally works out pretty close to that, too. However, if your mare is pregnant with a mule, it is 12 months. Don't know if you add the days or not, but we had one mare that I think was way over a year before she foaled her mule.
