Profession or family? To me it is very simple. When you have a significant event in your life, who is always there? Your family. If you have a traumatic event and couldn't reason soundly your family would stay, but your profession would leave. How many families do you know that suffer because one spouse works late hours or is always away on business trying to get that promotion. The Family is a backbone, the profession is a means to provide.

My sociology class JUST had a discussion on this topic. Americans tend to say family with their mouths, but in the long run, profession takes more of our time.
I figure that it's not so much us being our usual hypocritical selves, but rather we work really hard to put food on the table for the family we say we care about.
Basically, it's a balancing act for both, but most of the time ends up going towards job.

Depends. If you work a job that keeps you at the desk until 7pm, then you chose profession. Many people choose this option.
What do you want, money or time? Very rarely can you have both, except inheritance babies.
