I have opened a paypal account. My balance is 0.00 USD; I want to buy something on eBay. Do I have to transfer funds (if yes: how?) from my credit card to the paypal account or will it be done automatically after I've bought the eBay item?

no you dont need to transfer funds . you just put the credit card on file as your source of payment, and it will charge your card.

You can open paypal for free. They give you limitations for adding credit to your paypal unless you register a credit card or a checking account. There are major limitations on your account, but if you set up a checking account then those limitations increase. If you setup both a checking account and a credit card, then all limitations are waived.
Normally if you register a checking account, then you can accept up to $500 or send $500 from paypal to the seller. If you register a credit card or checking account, it also gives you the option to pay from your credit or checking account.
It takes time though because after you setup a credit card or a checking account, they will make two small deposits into your account and you have to verify it once it shows up on your account billing info. I am sure they do that for checking accounts, but they mght not do that with credit cards. I would setup a credit card account instead if you want to pay for something right away. When you purchase something on ebay, it will ask you to enter your email address associated with your paypal account, and then you have only one option of paying for it if you only have either a credit card or checking set up. If you have both, it gives you both options. If you have neither, then it will ask you to add an account to your paypal.

No, you don't. When you buy an item, it will transfer the funds from your checking account, if the credit card is linked to that.

once you have purchased on ebay, it will ask your method of payment, if you already have paypal account with them your c/card will be debited accordingly should you choose that method.
