He is playing as he offers a different dimension to the attack. He has height and is difficult to mark because of it.
He has done OK to date for England and has earned his place on the International stage. He is the only English striker to have scored in this world cup.
With Owen out now, I expect Crouch to take a bigger part in the tournament than he probably would have.
I am still bewildered why Walcott has been selected and has not played yet. The game against Sweden would have been the ideal time to introduce him, the game was effectively a dead rubber for England and then Owen got injured. I'm sorry but I can't understand Eriksson's logic or tactics at the moment.
That being said, I think Crouch has done well to date. If he can avoid getting held down by the defenders he will be a real threat. It's time the referees starting taking action against the defenders who grapple the forwards in the box, if it happened outside the box they give a free-kick straight away.
C'mon England.

Are you having a fuk!ng laff!!!!!!
We need crouchy, he is the only striker to have scored for us so far in this tournament!!
I'm telling u, England are so effing honoured to have all the liverpool players playing n england....
Gerrard- saving that shot on our goal line not to mention his amazing passes and goals
Crouchy- for his goals and footwork and not just playing for himself
Carragher-might not be first choice but definately an asset to the team....
so stop complaining....Were gonna win and i hope crouchy gets our winning goal then you can eat your words!

Simply cos he plays for liverpool. If he was still playing for Southampton, there would be no chance of him making the england squad.

Same reason that any of them are. They are English & there are not that many good English palyers to choose from. Good club players but not up to international standard.

Because he is English and they need someone to pull on defenders hair so he can get above them to score a goal.
