I am going to interview for a job this afternoon for an Engineering Firm as an Administrative Assistant. I was wondering what the pay is being I have been out of the workforce for about 3 years? I have been self employeed since then but not sure what the going rate is and wanted some answers. I am in Central FL if that matters.

Normally Admin Assistants make anywhere from 9 to 14 an hour, in my area in SC its about 8 per hour with no exp and is around 12 to 14 with exp, I would not settle for anything less than 11 if I were you.

I just moved from west central Florida. Companies there were starting Administrative Assistants anywhere from $8-10/hr depending on experience. That was in Sarasota, where salaries are supposed to be good.

I love the people who think that salary.com will give you a realistic idea of what you should be getting paid. I just checked this site for Administrative Assistant in an area that I know what they make. It over estimated by about $8,000. I have never seen a reasonable estimate on salary .com for any position that I know what the pay is.

I was an administrative assistant for 3 yrs. At that company I only made somewhere in the area of 8.40 an hour. I know the going rate in PA is anywhere from $10-$12 an hour based on experience. Hope this helps. I am no longer employed, I am now a stay at home grandmother. Take care

Check www.monster.com and get a job description and salary range for the exact position and your geographic location. Remember, the numbers are just a starting point.

Pay is only part of the package. Ask about healthcare, childcare, tuition reimbursement, dental & vision etc.
