you get suspension because you can't have it on the barrel only 12 inches up from the handle. also the ball will stick sort of because pine tar is a sticky solution for a better grip.

you are called out there can only be enough pine tar on a bat that reachers from the handle the length of homeplate

you cant put it on the barrel, only on the handle, its for gripping because wooden bats do not have leather grips on it.
