Passenger attendants are trained in first aid and CPR and can handle the basics of an emergency. There are no doctors assigned to be on the plane, though one might be there as a passenger. The pilot assesses the emergency and makes decisions as to whether to abort a flight and find a nearby airport to land or to continue to the destination airport, where medical help can be summoned.

im sorry but think about it logically, there cant possibly be a doctor on every plane ! but the cabin staff are extremely well trained-all of them- in first aid and emergency procedure, being on a plane you are in probably closest contact with instant medical assistance than any other form of transport in the world with the exception of travelling constantly in an ambulance-take some boiled sweets with you and fear not you couldn't be in safer hands...think about it,its true,x

if you are lucky and there is a doctor or some other trained medical person on board, if not most planes in the US are equipped with automatic defibrillators (the thing that jump starts the heart)
