Some things are definitely predestined, but not everything. For the things that are not predestined, we are free to exert choices and change circumstances.

For instance, free-will cannot alter the family you have already been born into, however, you have the free-will to either be close to them, or to not be close to them.

Recognizing when you have choice and when you don't is valuable. If you never take a moment to consider all the options you DO have, you will react to circumstances unconsciously in the same way each time and then believe that you don't have free-will. However, in a similar way you can also struggle with futility to change things that simply cannot be changed, thus wasting your energy going against what is already predetermined.

Both free-will and destiny are very real factors - by maintaining awareness of this fact, one is in a better position to honestly see which one is operating at any given time.

There is no such thing as free will. There is a biological determinate to how we interact with others from before we are even born. Then are parents make our choices for us further pushing us in a given direction. The mass of experience in the first three years of life can determine what and who will be. Then there is chance.

To my understanding, predestination means that God knows our decisions ahead of time, even though those decisions are made by us, based on our free wills. He doesn't make our decisions for us, He just knows how we will choose.

hope this helps............

Nothing is pre-destined. It is not guaranteed. We have the Free Will to do what we want until the time comes that we pass.

Eastern philosophy is ruled by destiny. Western philosophy is not. A lot depends what you decide to follow. Personally, I do not believe do not believe in destiny. We can change our circumstances if we are determined to do so. Just look around, mankind has achieved so much in his time.

A better question is:

How can anyone like the movie "Free Willy" when it was so predictable?

There is no pre-destination. We make our own decisions. You do have free-will to a certain extent, that is why we are "free" to do as we please.
