The only way that you can normally do that is to say that you don't get good coverage in your home. For T-Mobile (whom I ADORE!!!!) they said I could get out of my contract if I could not get a signal from my home. All I had to do was send proof of my address and they would let me out of the contract if signals were weak there. If you can prove that with Verizon they might let you out...you can also see if someone else wants verizon and see if you can transfer it to another person.

Based on the answers you've received I have to assume that someone has contacted the company to find out if it''s possible to release from the contract if you found someone else interested in taking over the phone and contract? (Have I used the word "contract": enough do you think? ;) )
I know of several individuals usiing different providers who have done this without incurring any termination fees or penallties. I believe tho, that the provider has the right to refuse the transfer of the contract if the person wanting to take it over is unaccepted (ie bad credit). Check the fine print for any restrictions of this nature. If none, then question the company about the possibility and explain your reason (ie cannot afford, recently unemployed, etc) Don't say it's because their phones are crap or their reception sucks :). I don't have a clue about Verizons service I'm just using those excuses as an example only, no disrespect intended.
Otherwise, the contract is in force for the full term and unfortunately, you are tied unless you buy the contract out (termination fee).
Good luck hope it works as you want it to.

You can also get out of a contract if you're in the military and show proof of orders stating that you're going overseas.
But that isn't exactly likely to happen with you, is it?

There is no possible way, trust me. I've tried every way that I can. The only thing you can do is wait until it expires.
