I'm not Irish and I think they're great! I have never come across such a relaxed, friendly, helpful, sociable group of people. Not a bad word to say about them really! Whenever I have been to Ireland (and thats3 times now) the Irish have been so welcoming and their pace of life is nice and relaxing. I'll just have to go back some day!

I don't want to generalise but so far I've never met an Irish person I haven't liked!
I have met quite a few people from Northern and Southern Ireland since I've been at university. The ones I've met have all been very friendly, with a good sense of humour and they all seem to be able to drink a lot too! The best St Patrick's day I have ever had was with a group of Irish students!

I'm English and I know lots of Irish people and naturally I think they're all great because I've chosen them as friends. But I think I've got a romantic vision of Ireland as being a beautiful country, still very rural and full of lovely, friendly people. So in a way I'm envious of my Irish friends as they've got the advantage(?) of living in England but also have family, friends and a home in Ireland.
On the other hand, I know that Ireland is no different fom any other country and has its share of good and bad people, crime and all the problems of modern life.

They think they are odd like Jews. They are extremely clannish. They are also extremely divided politically and religiously. It has to do with the diversity of Celtic peoples and Germanic peoples that settled in Ireland. The Gaels are from Spain. The Celts are from France, Spain, and Switzerland. The Germans were Danes, Jutes, and Norse. Also the Greeks and Turks and Moors most likely settled before the Gaels. The Gaels were the last peoples to settle and are the most dominant ironically. The similarities between the Irish and the Jews were made clear in the novel "Ulysses" by James Joyce. Both peoples were ruled by priests and poets/or scribes and were conquered by people they considered inferior.

Honestly?
The Irish people I have encountered in life have proved to be english hating (why live here then) foul mouthed untrustworthy types. I haven't encountered many Irish people admittedly but they do share these characteristics.
Well you did ask........
