its been confirmed Michael Owen has ruptured his cruciate ligament...should we be worried or have we got the players to cope?
Do we give Theo Walcott his big chance on the world stage or do we swap and change things around and let Gerrard or J.Cole take the role on.

Also lets wish Michael Owen a speedy recovery from a horrible injury.

Looking forward to see Michael Owen in the next season.

He's irreplaceable as a poaching striker but this could mean Stevie G starting as 2nd striker - may very well turn out to be the winning situation for the next game. Good thing is England do have the players to up the level of play when it matters for each game as they progress.

Play Rooney up front on his own, with Joe Cole and Gerrard just behind him and allow Lampard to get forward more. This means bringing in Carrick to the midfield holding role, but he already does that very well at Spurs.

Crouch should be kept as England's "plan B" and not used as the main striker. He is an excellent target man but is limited apart from that.

Owen's injury is a big blow to the team, but these things sometimes happen. Walcott must be given a chance soon, otherwise there was no point in picking him for the squad.

Sven's decision to do a PR exercise and take Walcott along is backfiring big time now.All they have now is Rooney and Crouch, with the possibility of perhaps moving an attacking midfielder into a more forward position.Walcott won't be risked because of his inexperience so it's either the remaining two strikers together or 5 across the middle with midfielders trying to get on the end of Crouch flick-on's - which of course means that the long ball game will most likely be plan A.

If we had a good manager I'd be confident that we could still make things work. Maybe by using an extra 'midfield' player and getting them to push up the field, or giving Walcott a chance to see what he can do. However seeing as it is Sven's decision expect to see Crouch wandering around aimlessly and England fly home. - I was really looking forward to watching Owen and Rooney play up front and was so disappointed for Owen and the team. I'd love to ask Sven why he took Walcott if he isn't going to play and also why he thinks that Crouch is a world class footballer. Didn't we have any decent strikers to take to the world cup this time or were they just left at home??

Peter Crouch just like happened in the match. In the first 2, he stood in for Rooney and the third, he deputised for Owen. Walcott will only come on if we are really desperate or if we are leading comfortably and there is no question of giving away the lead as in the Sweden game. Gerrard or Cole will be used as auxiliary strikers ahead of Walcott in a 4-5-1 formation as happened in the Sweden match(Gerrard) and the Paraguay match(Cole)

Switch to 4-5-1 with Rooney up front on his own.Bring in Carrick or Hargreaves as the holding midfielder to let Gerrard and Lampard push forward more. The way those to get forward it's like having two extra strikers. Then stick with Joe Cole on the left and Beckham/Lennon on the right. This is the formation we should have started the World Cup with.As a Liverpool FC fan i love Michael Owen. However he was clearly not his old self and the performance of the team far outweighs personal loyalties.

The thoughts of England fans will be dominated by sadness for Owen, but there will also be the realisation that the 26-year-old’s injury leaves a gaping void in their side’s attacking armoury, particularly as Wayne Rooney is still evidently short of match-fitness and only the untried teenager Theo Walcott can be considered a genuine like-for-like replacement for the Newcastle striker.

Crouch and Rooney will start up top. Given Sven wouldn't even put in Theo in the game yesterday when England was already qualified for the next round I don't see him starting against Ecuador. This is why Defoe should have been brought instead.

if i was sven i'd put rooney on as a lone striker and play gerrard just behind him. i'd also love to see theo walcott on the pitch with rooney & aaron lennon. i dont think that there is a defence in the world that could cope with those three and gerrard

i think sven should try wallcott its a bit risky though now were in the knockout stages. Rooney isnt 100% and crouch isnt brilliant, maybe push gerrad or even joe cole forward. What do U Think?
