The cheapest way is to sprinkle a lil cyan pepper around, but be sure to leave out a bowl of water ;)

Use barrier type plants - for example, thick shrubs with thorns. Plants trees, shrubs and even flowers in groups rather than singly. Use landscaping timber or stone to build barriers to the flower beds, then work with your dog so it understands that he is supposed to stay off it (just like you would teach it to stay off the furniture inside the house). Be careful about what you plant - don't plant things that are poisonous to dogs. The website below has more good ideas, including training hints.

I had this problem before. I ended up using ground up black pepper, and cayenne, sprinkling it out around my yard after each time I watered. Dogs are super sensitive to that stuff.

If you dont mind doing it, you could try stuffing a small piece of meat with rat poison, etc. If they are your neighbors dogs, do what I ended up having to do anyways. Call your local pound, and ask them what options you have. If the dogs are wild, try the above things.

There are the electronic fence options, if this is your dog.

Have you tried sitting down and explaining the situation to them? I'm sure they will understand your point of view. Failing that, an electric fence normally works.
