DNA Double Helix: A Recent Discovery of Enormous Complexity
The DNA Double Helix is one of the greatest scientific discoveries of all time. First described by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953, DNA is the famous molecule of genetics that establishes each organism's physical characteristics. It wasn't until mid-2001, that the Human Genome Project and Celera Genomics jointly presented the true nature and complexity of the digital code inherent in DNA. We now understand that each human DNA molecule is comprised of chemical bases arranged in approximately 3 billion precise sequences. Even the DNA molecule for the single-celled bacterium, E. coli, contains enough information to fill all the books in any of the world's largest libraries.

DNA Double Helix: The "Basics"
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a double-stranded molecule that is twisted into a helix like a spiral staircase. Each strand is comprised of a sugar-phosphate backbone and numerous base chemicals attached in pairs. The four bases that make up the stairs in the spiraling staircase are adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C) and guanine (G). These stairs act as the "letters" in the genetic alphabet, combining into complex sequences to form the words, sentences and paragraphs that act as instructions to guide the formation and functioning of the host cell. Maybe even more appropriately, the A, T, C and G in the genetic code of the DNA molecule can be compared to the "0" and "1" in the binary code of computer software. Like software to a computer, the DNA code is a genetic language that communicates information to the organic cell.

The DNA code, like a floppy disk of binary code, is quite simple in its basic paired structure. However, it's the sequencing and functioning of that code that's enormously complex. Through recent technologies like x-ray crystallography, we now know that the cell is not a "blob of protoplasm", but rather a microscopic marvel that is more complex than the space shuttle. The cell is very complicated, using vast numbers of phenomenally precise DNA instructions to control its every function.

Although DNA code is remarkably complex, it's the information translation system connected to that code that really baffles science. Like any language, letters and words mean nothing outside the language convention used to give those letters and words meaning. This is modern information theory at its core. A simple binary example of information theory is the "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." In that famous story, Mr. Revere asks a friend to put one light in the window of the North Church if the British came by land, and two lights if they came by sea. Without a shared language convention between Paul Revere and his friend, that simple communication effort would mean nothing. Well, take that simple example and multiply by a factor containing many zeros.

We now know that the DNA molecule is an intricate message system. To claim that DNA arose by random material forces is to say that information can arise by random material forces. Many scientists argue that the chemical building blocks of the DNA molecule can be explained by natural evolutionary processes. However, they must realize that the material base of a message is completely independent of the information transmitted. Thus, the chemical building blocks have nothing to do with the origin of the complex message. As a simple illustration, the information content of the clause "nature was designed" has nothing to do with the writing material used, whether ink, paint, chalk or crayon. In fact, the clause can be written in binary code, Morse code or smoke signals, but the message remains the same, independent of the medium. There is obviously no relationship between the information and the material base used to transmit it. Some current theories argue that self-organizing properties within the base chemicals themselves created the information in the first DNA molecule. Others argue that external self-organizing forces created the first DNA molecule. However, all of these theories must hold to the illogical conclusion that the material used to transmit the information also produced the information itself. Contrary to the current theories of evolutionary scientists, the information contained within the genetic code must be entirely independent of the chemical makeup of the DNA molecule.

DNA Double Helix: Its Existence Alone Defeats any Theory of Evolution
The scientific reality of the DNA double helix can single-handedly defeat any theory that assumes life arose from non-life through materialistic forces. Evolution theory has convinced many people that the design in our world is merely "apparent" -- just the result of random, natural processes. However, with the discovery, mapping and sequencing of the DNA molecule, we now understand that organic life is based on vastly complex information code, and such information cannot be created or interpreted without a Master Designer at the cosmic keyboard.

Not scientific proof in the sense of controlled experiment, but humans, with our tiny little minds and infinitesimal, independent perspectives, couldn't make that stuff up unless it had a source in reality.

The details are at the mercy of human speculation, but there are too many similar, independent archetypes of religions in civilizations through the ages for God to be a mere concept.

Organized religion is the bane of mankind and will lead to it's destruction. There is not now or ever will be a scientific explanation for things based on ancient myths and text. In it's purest form all religion is based on ancient sun worship. Theocratic doctrines of today are all interpretations of a book, which was written as many as 300 years after the fact. The Jewish faith is based on old testament doctrine and is merely an attempt by the religious leader in their time to control the masses, many of whom were illiterate so interpretation of written words were necessary and most of the time corrupted into scaring the people into submission. The Christian faith in all it's forms are, or are at least thought to be based on new testament doctrines i.e. before Christ (old) After Christ (new). However, as it progressed over time (or digressed to my line of thinking) the dogma and doctrines became more oppressive, and the various interpretation became blended into one big ball of crap. Now people are so brainwashed they don't or can't see that the control is still in place and is so invasive that even the calender is based on religious dogma.

I have this weird thing I do it's called thinking for myself. I do not need a person, (whom I promise you is no smarter that you or I) to tell me how I should interpret a book.

None, it really is why there are Agnostic human beings and Scientology as a faith decision. i believe that someone or some thing had to create the Earth, yet there are a number of issues that bypass antagonistic to what present day Christians believe. My difficulty is that i guess i'm an Agnostic Christian if that makes any experience... There probable would properly be some evidence of a few thing, yet component of religion isn't to question it, so that you had those styles of human beings for 2000 years ignoring the actual undeniable actuality that they couldn't "prepare" faith, yet at the same time permitting the evidence to vanish with out attempting to maintain it, AND following blindly and training that is the right thanks to be. you need to continuously ask questions, inspite of each thing, that is your soul we are speaking about. If there are 10 often populated religions available, in undemanding words a million team technically is nice contained in the way we are instructed to view faith. I refuse to believe if Christianity is actual that God does no longer have left us evidence of a few variety. maximum religions are very similar. couldn't or not that is plausible that they were all created yet because te populations of the human beings at latest were both spread out or at conflict with one yet another so the religions took distinct twists and turns? the very actuality of the remember is this variety of theories: a million) there's a God or Gods, he/they created the Earth or a minimum of area so as that the enormous Bang ought to ensue and the Earth became formed. He created guy or guy developed from different animals which he created. some thing made us smarter than the different animals even even if we do not continuously act like it. 2) faith became made up through guy as a set of regulations to adhere to and a advantages or punishment on your moves throughout the time of existence because mankind does no longer proceed to exist if some thing did not replace. If there became no faith, what would save human beings from killing one yet another daily? With faith, we've all the themes of the international, are you able to imagine if the thousands and thousands of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, all different large religions did not exist? guy-variety does no longer have made it to the three hundred and sixty 5 days 2000.

Science disproves many of the claims and ideas put forward in many of the World's religious texts, and especially the Bible. The stranglehold that the Church held for years over dictating what was considered acceptable truth - notably by torturing and executing those who disagreed with it through periods such as the inquisition - held back science for centuries.

It was not until scientists managed to break free of religious dogma that progress was made. You can see this sort of dogma in many of the answers here, which are based on what people would like to be true or would like to force as truth on others and are not based on observation, rationality or decent human values.

In truth, though, as much as science debunks many religious claims and makes nonsense of most religions, it does not and nor does it generally attempt to disprove the existence of God. Nor does it prove it.

That is a matter of faith.

But when faith turns to dogma, beware. Because dogma turns to bigotry. And bigotry turns to war. And war - whatever anybody says - is never anything but wholly unholy.

actually a protein is much more complicated than DNA, thats why at first they though proteins carried our genes that we pass down because DNA was too simple when compared to protien.
Also the fact that something is complex proves a higher ordered being makes no logical sense whatsoever. the fact that something is complex means just that. It is complex. it says nothing about a reason or how we only know that it is complex. and how would DNA DISPROVE evolution??????
evolution only exists because DNA exists. there is nothing miraculous about DNA and life, it simply exists. Sure the possibilty of life occuring is VERY SMALL, but given all the time and space and places of life possible enviroments in the universe its probability of happening becomes 99.9% as alot of time passes. Any life form would simply be "lucky". after all if there is no life then the concept of luck wouldnt even there. there is no reason or logical path to conclude that there is a higher being due to the simple fact that we exist and DNA exists. It could be better, it could be worse, afterall perfect is merely a human concept.

Martin S knows because that rig he's in is either a sky diving rig or a ultralight plane rig so he's been up to heaven and asked GOD directly! Or he's really afraid of drowning and got one humongous life preserver in which case he asked Neptune. I ask you did he write all that DNA stuff himself or did GOD give him a hand!

Shucks now I gotta go back and read it all, in the slim chance that any of it makes any sense!

OK I read it and just as I suspected it makes absolutely no sense.

Martin,
Are you trying to say that because the double helix is complex it had to be created by a god? How is that any different than prehistoric man saying "Lightning is very complex so it must be created by a god"?

WHY CAN'T PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING CANNOT BE A PROOF OF ANYTHING!!!!!!

Actually, there is no scientific proof for any religion. You have to have faith; believe in that religion - whether its chrisianity, evolution, muslim - whatever it is.

I suppose thats the whole point of Religion, it requres blind faith on your behalf to take what is seemingly imopssible as truth and translate any lessons that were learned during said exercise of faith and translate them into your life.
