Most waiters and waitresses get paid the minimum wage for their age. Your money will be made up it tips, the amount of tips you earn will depend on how good you are at your job and how busy the restaurant is. You could get a job for example in an airport which is very busy and could be earning between £40 and £80 a day in just tips. This is very good money but you will work hard for it as its so busy. You could probably earn the same working in busy restaurants in London.

I am an American and we get tipped more because tipping is more accepted here. When I go there I tip less because it is the custom to do so.

Like if you order drinks in a pub...you go to the bartender and ask for what you want, and they give it, here is where I would tip, but actually at this point tips are not usually given.

When I do tip, they recommend a lower percentage of the bill, if the service is exceptional 10% would be a generous tip, while in the US, I would tip about 20% or a little more.

Keep that in mind if you decide to do this.

Minimum wage is £5.05 per hour. General working shift is 7.5 to 8 hours per day, 5 days over 7 but you'll probably work longer than that. Tips depend on where you work and if you get to keep your own, whether they go into a pool and get shared out (sometimes with hosts and kitchen staff who don't get their own) or whether you get them in cash each day or at the end of the pay period in your wage and pay tax on them.

Bar staff tend to get paid a little bit more...

Depends on the hours, but I think minimum wage is £5.60 an hour which is probably what you'd get paid for that kind of work
