"Your Song" is the first single from Elton John's self-titled second album. It was the first of his many hits in the US and the UK. A cover by Ewan McGregor, singing to Nicole Kidman, was in the musical movie Moulin Rouge!

Your Song is said to have been written in a remarkably short time. Taupin (at the age of 17) penned the lyrics over breakfast and it took Elton 20 minutes to compose the music for them.

Elton John said that he has played "Your Song" at every one of his concerts, usually as the closing number.

It was ranked #136 in the 2004 List of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Artists who have covered this song

* Rod Stewart
* Rick Wakeman (on piano, not vocals)
* Roy Orbison
* Al Jarreau
* Garth Brooks
* Boyzone
* Three Dog Night (on It Ain't Easy)
* Billy Paul (with little changes)

Smiddy likes the song - it's catchy.

I don't know much about it, but I love the song.

It was also covered, and quite nicely, by Ewan McGregor in "Moulin Rouge!" :)

Edit: Oh wait the person above already said that. Looks like a ten point answer up there. ;) Ok, I don't really have anything to add, then. Just that I really like both the song and Elton John!

Supposedly Elton John was the warm up act to Three Dog Night. They were supposed to sing the song originally, but the band thought John's performance was much better than theirs so he sang it and the rest is history.
