Take the best aspect first, which is that it can work, indefinitely. It can provide jobs and decent living wages at a good standard of living for a whole nation on an ongoing basis for an unlimited time. It can coexist with personal freedom, democracy and law and order. It can coexist with free international trade. It can provide an outlet for the highest personal ambitions without leading to deadly consequences. It can coexist with the cultural and artistic pursuits of an enlightened nation.

The worst aspect of it is that without integrity, imagination and even genius on the part of government officials and business leaders, it can become corrupt and greed ridden and lead to a grinding dehumanization of the average people, even if they have all the necessities of living and even more.

I agree with Harold. I will recap:

Good: Capitalism is very efficient, and produces the most services and products.

Bad: Without some socialistic component, the rich will get very rich and the average will become poor. Eventually this will lead to rebellion and war.

Best Case: Keep capitalism, have a moderate amount of social safety net.

capitalisim is and always has been based on exploiting someone. from slaves in the beginning, to uneducated immigrants, to modern illegal aliens, not to mention "outsourcing" to other countries that have few, if any, protections for either the workers, the surrounding citizenry or the environment as a whole.

capitalisim brings economic competition, which results in innovation and technological advancements, but a reckless, "win at any cost" attitude must be held in check by some sort of regulation or abuses will become rampant (think Enron)
