From my experience - they do. Most people rent about 11 DVDs a month. If you rent more than 13 DVDs a month, delivery will certainly be delayed, especially with new releases - Netflix will delay your DVDs by shipping them from a further distribution center. http://www.idvdrentals.com/netflix.php

They're doing it intentionally because they consider you a "heavy user" and they are trying to slow you down to maintain their profit margin (the practice is called "throttling.") Read your user agreement; you agreed that if you were considered a heavy user, they could delay your shipments, ship from a facility that is farther away and give you lower priority for new releases than they would for lighter (more profitable) users. Figure the cost of postage is $0.78 roundtrip... if you are only paying them $15 per month and averaging 18 movies, you aren't netting them much profit (and that's not even taking labor into account.) I'm not sure if Blockbuster does the same thing, but I'd think they'd pretty much have to or they'd lose too much money on the most avid movie renters. The good news about Netflix is that they ease up on the throttling when your usage goes down, so it won't always be like that. Edit to add: there was a class action lawsuit filed because, in the beginning, the user agreement simply said the member was entitled to unlimited movie rentals. Since then, they'd changed the user agreement... if you've joined in the last year or so, you agreed to allow them to throttle you, so you can't be part of the suit.

Yes, they do. If you get movies and return them the very same day or the next day, they will shuffle them so that show up as being returned one at a time over 2-3 days. They have it in their terms of service now , though.
We use Netflix and we still get movies in a timely manner and plenty of movies each month and still save alot more money than going to the video store.

I think they do... I have an unlimited package. And sometimes I will get an Email that says they recieved my movies but it will be two days before I get an email that says they sent me a new one. And my list has always got 90+ on it. Also I have a tendancy to send two in one envalope back to them and alot of times they they'll say they recieved one and then the next day the other. If it only happened once I wouldn't think it was wierd but 4 or 5 times kind of strange...

I've found it's very rare and I live in a fairly rural area.
Although I tend to rent old TV shows, so perhaps they don't throttle me because at least they're making *something* off the investment?

Yes! Sometimes they wait days before checking in movies that I've returned. That's how they limit how many you get in one month. They added some wording about it in their user agreement/privacy policy so it's legal for them to do it.

no they don't. From my experience they are excellent. I wouldn't rent online from anyone else. Never had a problem with them at all.
