No. If you aren't having periods, you aren't ovulating. Ovulation causes the next period (in about 2 weeks).

You *can* have bleeding and not ovulate (in this case, it *isn't* actually a period, although you may not be able to tell the difference from the outside).

If you are only having occasional periods and you want a baby, you *need* to read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It will give you all the information you need to know if you are ovulating on the occasions when you *do* have vaginal bleeding, and give you the maximum chance of getting pregnant.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

I have PCOS as well and I went to see a specialist a while back. My understanding from him is that you don't ovulate every month. Each month, when your ovary goes to release an egg, sometimes it stays in the ovary and turns into a cyst instead. This is what causes the ovarian cysts. For women with PCOS, it can be very hard to get pregnant, depending on how often you are actually ovulating. It's hard to tell.

I use to have periods every 2-3 months as well. My husband and I just quit using birth control and went about things normally, with the decision that we won't push getting pregnant. My friend with PCOS took 7 years to get pregnant, because she had so many problems. It took us less than a year. For every person it's different though, because it depends on the severity of your symptoms. Some women with PCOS can't have babies at all.

You can always go to a fertility specialist, if you need. Good luck!

I am sorry you're having trouble.

You probably aren't ovulating, but you can hope that you are on the off chance.

I assume that you know how to start regulating your periods, but here is the list.

- Talk therapy with other women with PCOS to deal with stress
- Regular comedy to keep you laughing
- Take a daily supplement of Monks' Pepper or Chaste Tree Berry first thing every morning
- Avoid alcohol, sugar and white flour. Eat only whle grain bread, oatmeal, etc
- Eat organic meat and drink organic milk to avoid food that contains synthetic hormones
- Eat purple (African) or orange yams to encourage your female hormones

Ovulation and menstruation are two very different things. You can ovulate without a period, just like you can have a period without ovulating.

You ovulate as infrequent as your periods are...they go hand in hand.
