I'm big fan of iBook by Macintosh tho..but apart from that, rely only IBM and Toshiba. IBM actually has gone cheaper with more types (check their website). Toshiba is slightly more expensive than IBM. If you want to buy Toshiba, buy Tecra as it's more durable.

Personally, I use a laptop daily for work, as a matter of fact I am on it right now. I have had Dell, Gateway, Compaq, Toshiba, and IBM. I personally do not care for Gateway or IBM. My Compaq Armada was indestructible, My Toshiba is great and I have had no issues thus far, and I have had several Dells including the Latitude D610 I use now that have never given me much trouble.

There really is no "best brand". Technology is so advanced that the minute you buy a laptop or desktop and walk out the store with it, it is already outdated. Hard to believe, but as you are looking for a PC right now, computer techs are already coming up with different and more advanced programs and hardware that will improve PC's. So by the time you have already bought what you wanted, something new is being manufactured.

MY HP Pavilion is great. the only problem is that the plug in the back, it seems to get hit a lot..and it knocked something loose, making it so that my laptop can't get powered ne more. i took it to a shop to get fixed, it cost me 30bux. The other thing is, my laptop doesnt charge my battery no more. The problem with the plug is a common problem, I actually found a board where 1000s of ppl are talking with eachother about the problem.
The system and speed of the laptop is great though. Just a few problems with its built.

Go for a Macintosh from http://www.apple.com you will never ever have problems with Windows again. IF youz want a Windows you should look for the sign: "Build for Windows XP; Windows Vista compatable" Then you kow that you can use Vista on it when Microsoft releases it...

It depends on who you are asking , or in this case who reads it, this question. Each user likes different brands for different reasons. I personaly think Apples make the best. they do not crash as much and the support is world class.
