On Monday, I saw a documentation about a Bashkirian village in the Southern Ural.
They said the life expectancy there is about 50 years because of cancer,...
Why? I saw they eat their local products (milk, eggs, vegetables from the own garden) ... their don´t seem to be much industry around (they mostly live from wood industry), the area is a National Park ...
The people look rather healthy, they aren´t starving,...

So what´s the matter?

Ecology is reason number one:
Chelyabinsk nuclear-fuel processing plant "Mayak" (nuclear accident happened in the area in late 50s). River Techa is still contaminated.
Magnitogorsk Steel Mills with huge air pollution (snow becomes gray after a couple of days).

Drinking hard liquor is reason number two.

Background radiation can be a reason two (granite rocks are the main culprit), but it's not that bad (it's comparable with Colorado or Utah).

What is the name of the documentary program? I would like to see it.

I saw that documentation too.. and obviously you weren't listening carefully !! like the other guys said, it's from all the nuclear testing and low standard of living !
