Take the hiphop industry, from 2pac to 50Cent, the one that sold crack is the man, the one that shot someone or was shot is the man, the one that is been in jail is the man, it seems to me that in one way this guys talk about struggle and how hard life is but in the other hand they are all proud to have done bad things and believe to be cool for it. I was looking at a documentary set in Colombia and there were kids who didn't rap about violence but actually lived in violence and in places where not iven 50Cent would step a foot in, the American hoods are a joke compared to this areas and i did not see ONE of those dudes sayn that they were proud of what they where doing, not one. So why in USA so many think its cool to do violence?

There's a difference between cool and the squeaky wheel.
These "gangsters" are not cool.
They are a news item. They are making noise, being a bother to attract attention.
The squeaky wheal gets the oil.
Folks perk up 'cause they want to know what all the fuss is about.
Unfortunately, like giving a tantruming child attention, these hoods think they're winning, thus continue their pathetic behavior.
In truth, folks are checking them out same as they check out gruesomely disfigured side show freaks at the one ring circus.

huh, come to think of it, remember callin' the two headed cow embryo cool too way back when I was a kid.

i agree with you.... it think it is soo stupid to go and parade around saying that you are proud to be from the Ghetto, and that you were shot 5 times. all of this is however all a part of the marketing for the big record labels that represent these Rappers and Hip-Hop artist. they are trying to appeal to young poor black and latino men who dont' come from very nice places, and they are trying to let them know that they don't h ave to live that way always. that is a nice message...just the wrong approach, especially when the Rappers are going to jail and getting shot...that is sending these young boys a another message. and a very bad one at that. i saw a documentary and there are such things as "Cool Hunters" they pay teens to be interviewed and take surveys so that marketers can find out what is cool today. and then they get the rap artists etc to dress that way and act that way...and thet essentially sell that style back to the kids who started it, and they have no idea.

this is a crazy mixed up world. some rappes are not even from the ghetto. Ice Cube was raised in an upper-middle class household...but the record label makes him sell the ghetto fabulous life style to the kids who listen to the music and watch the videos.

i know all of this because i used to be heavily involved into getting into the entertainment business... not now though... i hope that i'm an INDIE artist forever so that i won't have to do stuff like that to corrupt the minds of innocent children

They seem to be impressing friends or people in some sort of gang or mob they tend to live for, there is nothing good about living the gangster life no offence it is ****, my bf got put in jail because he tried to be someone he wasnt. It all came down to trying to be a thug and impressing people. Im single az now, threw that fish back in the sea. A real bad catch.

I disagree with the whole thug scene....I don't think it's cool to be a thug at all...and not everyone in the US thinks it's cool. In fact, I think the "cool rate" is going down for the thug scene and I'm very thankful for that. I don't want to be known as, "OH, you live in that thug country!"

Your average American does not think that this is cool. It's just really played up in the media unfortunately. It makes the rest of us look bad.

Very good question. I totally despise that gansta crap. Most of these people are insecure, mental weaklings. These are the same jerks that if sent off to war, would be weeping like girls.

I think they should set up a gangsta rapper war and let them all shoot each other off of our existence.

Because they think it makes them a man and they think they are powerful when they defy authority. The kids that think they are hardcore thugs are all morons if you ask me.
