I have an old note book, with windows 98. Unfortunately i have dowloaded a spyware (about:blank) and now it has become super slow. I have come to know that erasing the hard drive and re formatting might be the best solution for it, but I may not have all the drivers needed. . Can anyone please tell me what to do??? The note book is quite dear to me (first thing I bought with my money).I am not very computer savvy, so I am looking for an easy and simple answer.

Go here for instructions on removing About:Blank.

That should get rid of it and you won't have to re format.

If you have problems check out this too - http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=41251

Well, definitly you should have all the drivers available before Formatting it .. other wise u will be in a problem, the best thing you can do is Check its made/model and use its company's website to download the drivers, you should be able to get everything needed. Bye the way dont you have the CDs which comes along new Laptop when u buy one.... they too should do the necessary.

reformat it then dowload the drivers from the internet (or vica-versa).

about:blank is necessarily spyware, but a really slow machine likely needs rebuild (for many possible reasons) anyways.

download AdAware and Registry Mechanic from the net and try to clean your system with those first - if they don't sort the problem then reinstal and download whatever drivers you need from the net
