To store info. from your computer, I've found that the easiest and most compact device is a Flash Drive aka a 'memory stick'. This device has a built in program that only takes minutes to install, is small, comes with a cord so that you can wear it around your neck, and plugs easily into any USB port. As with any storage device, the amount of storage varies as does the price. I recommend nothing less than 512mb but believe that 1.0mb will hold more than most people are trying to utilize. My best buy came from Sam's Club. Other examples are a CD or Floppy. A Floppy is nearly extinct and in today's systems, you would have to order as an option and pay extra. Also, Floppy space is much more limited in size.

In computing, a data storage device—as the name implies—is a device for storing data. It usually refers to permanent (non-volatile) storage, that is, the data will remain stored when power is removed from the device; unlike semiconductor RAM. Recording can be done mechanically, magnetically, or optically.
A typical way to classify data storage media is to consider its shape and type of movement (or non-movement) relative to the read/write device(s) of the storage apparatus. The following is a list of storage media, roughly sorted descending from modern to older/archaic media.
optical disc (cd),hard disk, tapes,floppys

A data storage device stores data.
There are two types: persistant and volitile. Persistant data storage devices hold their data long term, while volitile devices lose everything when the power shuts off. Volitile are always faster.
Here are some common ones (talking only about computers here):
Persistant:
Hard Drive
FLASH memory (EEPROM)
Tape (lol)
A CD/DVD
Volitile:
RAM memory (system main memory)
