Well, I suppose you're right, I have no social life...with 4 kids it wouldn't be appropriate to go out partyin' every night! I would rather spend time watching BB than watching nothing at all

Well, I think the British version is probably much overhyped in the media. I can't understand why all those people from BB are constantly splashed about in the tabloids. That would annoy me too.
Here in the US, however, BB is just a silly fad that people watch in the summer when there's no regular shows being broadcast, and then forget about. The housemates aren't turned into celebs in the media, thank god. If they were I'd probably start boycotting. Reality TV stars are not even on the radar here, really. I guess if they were that's all we'd see in the papers though!

BB was designed to fill in TV schedules. Its cheap and tacky. A substitute for decent programme making. An art that has been lost right across the spectrum of British television.
The contestants involved in each series, have no appeal whatsoever. Each comes along with a lifetimes baggage of psychological problems.
Most need time in a mental health institution or even prison. Or indeed a double dose of diamorphine put both them out of their misery. Doctor Shipman could have been given community service here.

This year they have just put a group of misfits in there, but there is something quite addictive to it. Initially (for the first week) there was not much substance to it, but now with the characters developing and the introductions of new members its added variation to the program. Unfortunately the format of the show has stayed to similar so it does feel like 'same old same old'.
What else is there to do, have mindless TV on while on Yahoo Answers...

The only one that worked was the first series. The contestants didn't know what was going on outside and were surprised by how they became celebrities over-night (Craig giving his winnings to charity was the highlight). Since then, everyone who goes on it knows what they are getting into and they are all just prima-donnas who want to be famous. The whole idea of the show was to take a group of "ordinary" people and see how they get on. There hasn't been anybody "ordinary" on it since the first series. They just want to be famous for doing nothing.

The first series had a point, the rest are just for the lowest form of person to get attention and magazine deals. No normal people go on big brother.

The first series was a reasonable social experiment - since then it only exists to keep the lowest common denominator proles off the streets.
And Dodds, the correct spelling is "completely".

i think it makes you see the qualities of your self that you are unaware of, bit like when someone takes a photograph of you and you hate it, but everyone loves it, or vice versa, it doesn't appear to look like you, Big Brother is like that.
You go in with a mission to be who you are, and lots of contestants think they can keep up the visage, but reality seeps in and they crumble, with so many different personalities on board its helps you relate more to other people an can either make or break you..The UK BB7 has made people like Pete be seen in a new light, he's not just a bloke who swears, he has more compassion for people and nature than the rest of the group put together. and Glamour girls have proved that looks are NOT everything, A geek or a fat girl with decent personality gets to show what shes made of, unlike Imogen who just smiles and expects to win everyone over. just my ten pence worth :)

I promised my self that i would never ever watch Big Brother ever then i watch BB6. Now I'm hooked. It's not my fault. However it's like someone said if you don't watch the world cup and you don't watch BB what else is there. (Obviously not on sky.) But BB is like a soap, but it's unpredictable because there is no script. I think it's awesome.
