Get a speech therapist. If you're still in school, ask your school about it, many provide them for free under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Association). If you are an adult, try to find one online. They will be able to help. I promise. Good luck!

When does this happen? If it happens on a regular basis, then you should seek the help of a speech therapist. If this isn't possible, try this: Practice in a mirror at home asking questions to yourself. Before you answer, take a deep breath and evenly let the air out when you speak. Don't try to rush what you are saying. If someone wants an answer right away, then give them your answer that is comfortable for you. When you stammer, it's a coping mechanism. Nerves have a tendency to overtake us when we don't want them to and this sounds like a case of unconscious nervousness.

The answer to controlling stuttering is monitoring one's own speech, organizing thoughts, taking control of breathing and articulation, and pacing appropriately. However, the most important ingredient for success is a motivated and willing participant who will recognize that stuttering is a learned behavior that can be changed. It takes effort, commitment, and constant monitoring, but the stuttering behavior can be eliminated. Speech therapists can be integrated into the plan. It seems a stammerer also needs to gain confidence so a "panic" is not had when speaking in any situation. Good luck with your endeavor.

My cousin has a stammering problem....he is now 23, but has had it since he learned how to talk.....
He went to speech therapy & they told him....slow down your talking.....listen to each word in your head before saying them...& just dont get too worked up...the more stressed you are the more you are going to stammer....There really is no cure without medications....I would just say try some of these tips...or go see a speech therapist yourself...they have done wonders with my cousins problem...

It may take some time and persistence depending on how deep the root cause is and how long it takes to uncover it and release it but I would suggest you use EFT "Emotional Freedom Technique"

EFT's motto is "try it on everything"

For more information on this wonderful self healing technique, please visit www.ahealingmind.com and go to the Emotional Freedom Technique Page. It will offer you an overview, diagrams, a free manual download for self teaching and self application and there are also other self healing techniques available on the site (located on the Pathways Page) which you may also find beneficial.

I have seen stammering disappear with the use of EFT many times from children to adults.

I stammer and stutter, especially under stress. I overcame it by reading aloud and with the help of a speech therapist in grade school.
Know which consonants give you the most trouble and work on them. Good Luck!

Sing music. :) Listen to the pitch of your own voice and try to get it to match your favorite singer or music artists.

Your thinking is faster than what you can say so, it's out of synch hence the stammering.

So you need to learn to how to talk and think slowy before talking fast. I know that sounds funny but if you practice that it should help.

Also practice acting by reading comic books out loud.

I assume the speech therapist are not working because you would of had one at school during childhood. So screw the speech therapists!
