I have a Motorola V551 and I have received different advice on what to do after I put in the new battery. Does anyone know how I can extend the life of the battery?

Charge the battery to the full, then discharge it completely. Repeat this a few times.

Well, after you put the battery in, charge it up and use the phone. That's really about it. The battery is a lithium-ion type and needs no special charging or conditioning. Hook up the charger and let it charge. It will stop charging when it's fully charged. Leaving the charger connected after it's fully charged won't help or hurt.

The V551 is notorious for poor battery life. There's not a lot you can do about that.

I've been "hacking" the Moto triplets series for about 18 months now. The v551 is the worst of the lot when it comes to battery life.

Our corporate Office Services department had a bunch of them turned in when AT&T merged with Cingular and they gave them away to whomever wanted them. I figured out how to unlock them to work on the Cingular network and handed them out to anyone that asked for one. Of about 100 phones, 3 or 4 had decent battery life (3 - 5 days in standby) but the rest of the lot all died in around 24 hours. Even new batteries didn't make much difference.

This appears to be due to high current drain in standby mode. A fully charged battery still gave about 5 hours of talk time regardless of how long it would last in standby.

I've heard of a few people getting replacements from the carrier early on but most of those phones are well out of warranty now.

I got so sick of mine that I bought a new unlocked Razr V3i (not available from any US carrier yet) and couldn't be happier. It was expensive (around $300.00) but all I had to do was stick my SIM card in it and it worked. Cingular's internet features don't work but I don't use them anyway, so no loss there.

Leave the phone on charge for at least 14 hours before using it for the first time - that will condition your battery.

WELL ALL THIS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN READING A LOOOOT OF BOOKS! YOU NEVER WANT TO LEAVE YOUR PHONE PLUGGED FOR MORE TIME THAN NEEDED.. YOUR PHONE WILL TELL ON THE SCREEN WHEN THE CAHRGE IS DONE! THEN UNPLUGG IT OR YOU WILL OVERCHARGE THE BATTERY AND LIFE SPAN WILL DECREASE. ONLY CHARGE IT WHEN NEEDED,IF IT HAS MORE THAN 2 BARS DON'T CHARGE IT, BUT CARRY YOUR CAR CHARGER JUST IN CASE YOU'RE A BIG TALKER... DON'T EVER PLUG IT IN FOR 14+!!!!!

For the first time charge it for 8 hours.....then let it discharge (till the battery exhausts normally).....then charge it again

you could desire to allow the telephone die, or be on the verge of turning off before you recharge the telephone. certainly bypass away the telephone on the charger for as long because of the fact of fact the telephone could desire to be charged. do no longer fee your telephone over night or for long classes of time. I surely have had a telephone for 2 years and the battery lasts only as long because of the fact it did on an identical time as i offered it because of the fact of fact I save on with those recommendation.
