The book is fiction.

However the parts of the book that provide background to the story and that are causing so much controversy may be true (pesonally I believe that there is good evidence to say that they are)--however it's not Dan Brown's job as a fiction author to support or prove those theories.

Read the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, The Head of God, The Hiram Key, The Tomb of God or any of a couple of dozen non-fiction, well researched books and then decide for yourself.

the theory that Da Vinci Code puts forth comes from many sources, one big source includes The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. the theory is already present in this book. Both books use alot of real ife sources and interpret it into this theory. A best seller book like DA vinci code did NOTsimply come from a RANDOM THOUGHT that came to dan brown while he looked at the last supper painting. things should be backed up when people say them. It doesnt matter if your wrong, but there should be an attempt to get it right. Also much of the research was done by Dan brown's wife. Some of the things are backed up by real evidence the rest is interpretted or exagerrated. so yes i believe it to be fiction. since the proof is not solid. of course theres more proof for this book than another book alot of people talk about.

It's a fiction based round a thought Dan Brown has whilst looking at the Painting the "Last Supper". It's just a thought that happened to grow into a really good book. The believability is enhanced by the inclusion of historical figures and facts manipulated to fit Dan Brown's overly productive imagination.

On the other hand, the money he made is VERY REAL!

The Book and, more importantly, the Movie, were created to make the Authors money. Elaborating on certain facts is a common way to make something more readable/watchable.

Having said that, I suggest you get the book and do some research yourself, as there is a LOT of truth in the claims(which, I might add, are NOT solely Dan Browns claims)
The reason it has been so popular, is because there is a lot of truth in the elaborated story!

christians will only ever tell you it is all lies, as to admit to any of it being true, would not only show you they are following corrupted religious beliefs, therefore cannot be trusted to know the truth of something, but would also mean they are not able to judge a clear distinction between right and wrong and are unable to make informed decisions without bias.(ill-informed)
Unfortunately, that is what blind faith and refusal(by order)to question your 'peers' motives does to the common man.

My suggestion to you would be to research it as fully as you can, without bias and draw your own conclusions, as I have. Notice I do not tell you what to believe, rather implore you to find out for yourself, as is the ONLY way to real Truth, in any matter.

Good luck.

While the book is considered fiction, it has caused much uproar among Christians. I am a Christian and the book did not hurt my faith one bit. I kind of enjoyed wondering about it. If Christ did marry, does that change for one second the fact that He was crucified for all? And would it not just prove that he did have the capability to love and understand us? And wouldn't it be neat to know that somewhere out there is the DNA of Jesus himself? How could that possibly be an insult to Christianity? Loving is nowhere listed in the Bible as a sin.

I haven't seen it yet but will. I get a kick out of christians who will swear (upon pain of death) that the bible is absolutely true because they were told it is and would never imagine questioning it. And here is a book/movie done about their hero/god that they will swear is absolutely not true because it brings up some interesting possibilities which just don't fit into their teaching. There fore it can not be true. Religion is about believing in something unseen and unproven, and having certain men in cloth convince you that they have spoken to this entity, therefore they are superior to the rest of us and have special power. When you are fed that from 5 years old, you can be taught to believe anything.

'rhiannon h' took the words right out of my mouth -
"... the book did not hurt my faith one bit... If Christ did marry, does that change for one second the fact that He was crucified for all? (No it does not!) And would it not just prove that he did have the capability to love and understand us? (It would only strengthen the capability)... How could that possibly be an insult to Christianity? Loving is nowhere listed in the Bible as a sin. (EXACTLY!!!)"

People need to remember that the book is FICTION.

it is da vinci code. and watever they say about jesus is false, definetaly.
1) he did NOT mary magdeline if it does say.
2) he did die on the cross.
i am catholic and i dont want anyone to believe wat the da vinci code says about jesus, cuz i know most of it about jesus is fiction. It even says in the bible he died for our bad actions on the cross, and the bible would never lie. Sorry about being really serious about this.
So there. It is Da Vinci Code, and it IS fiction. (_______-) *^_^*

of course its fiction Jesus couldnt have done these things without SOMEONE knowing about it he was being followed and watched all the time remember they were looking for ANYTHING to accuse him they could find nothing so they made false testimony to have him crucified ..think about it if Jesus had been having some sort of an affair with a woman he had cast 7 demons out of those preists would have had a field day out of him and tore everything he stood for to shreds Jesus walked the perfect path here on earth
