Does anyone agree that David Beckham should lose the England Captaincy to Stevie G? When Sweden equalised Beckaham ran around like a headless chicken shouting at people. When Gerrard came on he controlled the midfield AND scored. In my book if you don't captain your club you shouldn't be captaining your country.
Oh and if anyone thinks Beckham had a good game because of the cross for Gerrards goal it was the only decent cross he put in all evening.

Yep, my mistake, it was Cole who crossed for Gerrard. So Beckham didn't even do that.

Definately agree, but he won't be because Beckham is Sven's little pet. Also, Stevie plays for the super Reds, not some fancy-dan London club!

I dare say that Gerrard was taking orders from Beckham last night. You can't start shouting for a new captain just because he has an off game. What if Gerrard has an off day, and he does nothing...has that cost him the captaincy of Liverpool? No.
Leave Beckham in charge for now, Gerrard would make a decent captain I'm sure but there is no need for replacement just yet.

Absolutely agree. I think Beckham has a place within the team, but as far as captaining your country this is something you need to do at club level first. Stevie G proves time and time again what a great player and captain he is, and should get the armband sooner rather than later. Also, I think it was Joe Cole who crossed for Gerrard's header? I may be mistaken here, but anyway, totally agree with you.

I`ts good to see people thinking logically for this question instead of thinking "loyally" to their clubs, and I believe Stevie has got what it takes to make his team mates sit up and listen, his leadership at Liverpool for the last season was inspirational for fans and club alike.
Beckham has done a lot for English football and no-one can take that away from him, he has some time left as captain (and you should never change your captain during the WC unless injured)imo.John Terry is a decent candidate but doesnt have the same standing within the team.
Just to keep the londoners happy, I also think J.Cole has what it takes to be captain although without as much experience (or work rate) that Gerrard has.
Ferdinand for captain.. lol !

Gerrard is one of the best members of the england squad!
he has been a great player throughout the last season and this tournament. Whereas Beckham is just a big-headed rich person who has begun to take his role as captain for granted, which shows through his lack of consistency and team spirit.
Now that owen is injured it is obvious that gerrard is the man for the job as england captain.

The idea that if you don't captain your club then you can't captain your country is tosh!
if Becks hadn't left Man u he would be captain there, same deal with Paddy V. If a player moves clubs they aren't gonna be captain straight away at their new place!
So what happens if there are no club captains in the squad? who gets it then?
Becks is a good captain, he was fighting well hard out there, just cos gerrard came on with some instructions and a fresh pair of legs means jack in my book. Becks has much more experience than him, thats what counts!
by the way shut up roxy what fancy london club lmfao

Yes i agree that Beckham needs to releive his duty as captain, however i think that John Terry would be the best person for the job as he is the heart and sole of the england team and pops up when he is needed the most.

Yes definately Gerrard for Captain and he should have started the game against Sweden not Owen. If he had started the game, and Owen had been on the bench, we wouldn't have this injury crisis now.
Sven's an idiot at times. Why send Defoe home and take Walcott? Why wasn't Marlon Harewood called up and Dean Ashton?
Sven out, Gerrard for Capt. :)

I have never like Beckham, personally I think that anyone would be better as captain.
I really don't think that Beckham should be playing for England as he no longer plays for an English team.f
