i totally understand what you are going through,po-ups are the biggest annoyance on the internet
since installing service pack 2 (update)from microsoft i have not had such a pop-up problem,as it has a good built in blocker
you can download the service pack 2 update from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx ,but you must be running a genuine windows xp to install it
you can also use the yahoo toolbar which has a very good pop-up-blocker as well as a anti-spy scanner, you can download this from http://uk.toolbar.yahoo.com/.
you can use both these blockers together for added security as this is what i do and i rarelly get pop-ups
you should also get spy-bot from http://www.safer-networking.org/ ,to make sur you have no spyware that may be causing this problem,as certain spyware creates pop-ups as part of thier program that is installed on your p.c
try all of these and i am sure it will eradicate all of the pop-ups you are getting
good luck

pop ups can come from spyware/adware. Get a good removal software for these. I have spybot and spywareblaster. you can find them at freecountry.com. Click on free utilities under the miscellaneous category on the left of the page. The next page will have a column called Free Security Software and Sites. Under that is: Free Spyware/Adware/Trojans/Keyloggers/Hijackers Removal, Detection and Prevention Tools
Free Antivirus Software

Always Always use your antivirus software on programs that you download. Do NOT install into your computer until you have scanned the files (right click on file name and scan with... should be an option). I save files to my desktop so that I have easy access to them. Plus it's closer to the trashcan ;-)

The effects of popups on your system can be alarming. Some of them will actually seem to take over the operation of your system.

Get a good popup blocker too. You can also find that at freecountry.com. Just enter popup blocker into the search field at the top left of the page. Good luck!

in your internet browser window there is a tab called tools click on it and there is an option called popupblocker. click on it and select turn on pop up blocker. that will do .Pop ups are a constant nuisance and they will be advertisements.SOme may harm your computer by activating viruses if you click or download something. It is better to allow pop up from the sites you trst like yahoo. To do that ... whnever you open yahoo after the pop up blocker is turned on it will show a white bar on the top saying pop up blocked.Click on that and click allow pop ups from this site.Sometimes when you want to download things say a software from miocrosoft, that time also you might have to turn on the pop ups because as you might be knowing download starts in a new window which is a pop up.So be sure to allow pop ups from these sites when you visit them
