Can't find the reference to a woman, but I'm sure you're thinking of Jonathan - 1 Samuel 18:3-4

Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle

Probably Johnathan, Saul's son. They were the best of friends. My interpretation of that bond was one shared between equals. Remember, in the culture of this time (and debatably still today) women were meant to be subject to men. By saying that Jonathan loved David like no woman could, it implies that they equally valued each other's thoughts and opinions on things. Also, during this time, multiple wives was okay--If I'm right, David had at least two or three by this point, including Abigail and the daughter of Saul. David could trust Jon more than he could either of them. Simply put (and if you'll excuse the crudeness): Bro's before ho's.
