Boot up into the BIOS and do a FULL Format (don’t do a quick one) within there. Once you’ve done that you will need a boot disk (floppy) or a bootable CD with the OS you would like to put on your now empty hard drive. When you reformat your drive you might want to put it in NTFS format (unless you have specific reasons to keep it in FAT32).
The computer will take you step by step, so just READ the instructions as they pop up on the screen.
This will wipe everything off so BACK your important stuff up now (if you can).

see formatting has to be done with care so first try the on line support of xp. if they help u it's fine .in case u have a recovery CD given with Ur comp u may try it out it will be of at least some help
basically what u can do is store all the imp files into a CD /on net/ floppy & then re- boot it. u can also format it using ms dos/{run -type cmd}
then format drive (a/b/c/d/e) do one by one
then follow the instructions.
i recommend u to spent the amount & get it done with a proper service fellow. do it yourself is not a good option

2 ways - use a windows 98 startup disk - this is the best way as it will load the drivers for your CD so that you can reload windows - it will start in DOS and all you type in is format c:\
The second way is to look for a link to the Command prompt - again just type in format c:\
The computer will warn you that everything on the hard drive will be destroyed - but this is what you want. If you have any troubles, go to a friends PC and email me pratchmg@yahoo.com and I'll see what I can you to assist.

The best way to formatt windows XP is by using windows98 cd. make sure win98 is in your cd rom and turn on your computer then press f11 to choose a bootable device. choose cdrom then then choose number 2. after that write command fdisk then delete the logical drives and everything there just follow the instructions and READ. after that you have to make a logical drives once your finished choose one to be active. you can read that all when your in FDISK. then after that reboot the computer then choose number 2 again. by this time you have to write the command path e:\win98 when you have two partitions if you have three then that could be path f:\win98 then press enter. then next command is format c: /q in that way your hard disk is now formatted. it really depends if youll choose win98 as your first OS (operating system) then just upgrade it to windows xp. sure it will take time but for me its the best way. you can do it also by inserting the windows xp cd directly then do the instruction. just that sometimes it will just do one partition instead of two or three. in windows98 you can surely do partitions as many as you want. or maybe im not that good in formatting xp using windows xp cd. hope i did help you in a little way.

If you have only win xp installed on your pc , then you need a bootable media to format that partition. for that boot from your bootable media instead of booting from hard disk. (using CMOS)
if you have two operating systems installed on the same system in two different partitions , then open your another windows and format the xp from there

Insert the bootable windows xp cd and boot with the cdrom (make cdrom as the first option in the boot sequence int the BIOS.). for entering into BIOS press DEL/F2 option as per the motherboard specification immediately when system starts.
then follow the steps as per the screen after you get the option of either loading fresh copy/repair by console window.
