Positively. If you sound unintelligent and idiotic, no one is going to want to hire you or work with you or listen to you.

How you sound is very important. It is strange how stereotyping can affect this quite a lot as well, think about this.
As an analogy, the film industry in America, up until the mid 1990s only had three types of Brit, the toff, the cockney, and the Scot. They were usually "good guys". Nowadays the district dialect is likely to determine good from bad, the Scots will 90% of the time, be good guys, Londoners will be villains, gangsters or thugs, and the toff will be either a fraudster or a criminal mastermind, how we have changed in the eyes of the world.
I have a pronounced West London accent, that makes me"trustworthy" according to other Brits, but a potential mobster according to Americans. I am at a loss to explain fully what has happened, what caused this change in conception.

It is very important to sound perfect while speaking...
Because a person can judge your personality through your body and tone gestures...
While speaking you are bringing out your knowledge and intelligence in your speech.
Because of the way you speak people can get attracted to you and this would be a great deal in business environments especially... You can be able to capture people, deals and projects and maybe more...
So make sure you always so sound smart, active and confident...

CAN OF WORMS
more important as to what you say than what you sound like? i.e with or without an accent??
For business a certain way of speaking can be vital. Regonal accents will appeal to that area?
saying that, the way we speak varies in different situations, who we are talking to, what about?
its a very large and varied subject, hope you get some useful replies

I believe so. If you could not see the person you are talking to, voice and verbage, and just how you phrase things will play a big part.
Have you ever called customer service, for whatever reason, and the person on the other end of the phone sounded like they could care less whether you were on the phone with them or not?
I sell for a huge company, and I take inbound sales calls, I believe that the way I sound, plays a huge part in how successful I am. I build rapport with customers, and get a lot of repeat business.
They can trust me, because what they hear on the other end of the phone is someone like them, with the same interests, etc.
On the same note, for public speaking its pretty much the same thing, no one wants to listen to someone with no personality, no energy...We want to hear from someone who feels like what they are doing at that moment (talking to me, or my group), is what they want to do!!!
Make sense?

In real sense, there is a direct interaction between the way one lip words -out and the consistency of a speech's verbal meaning. As a result we appropriate the aspect of idiolect in one's sound; which reveal the whole nature of one's effectiveness to interact with others! Be it mood, softness, anger or conditioning!. Consequently, your sound is soundy important in business as it frames and re-frames people's perception of you and hence getting you on the braoder, busy highway of business (a chance dealing with.)

Of course! Not only the tone of your voice is important (if you're talking about it), but confidence too. Try to hear yourself speaking in a mic (record doesn't help too much since the voice gets distorted a bit).

It does not base always on the sound that matters but on the content of the message or the detail that you are trying to imply. I know a person who sound like an expert perfect enunciation but... he talks nonsense when ask a question.

When engaged in a conversation, your interlocutor will be looking for clues to assess you and construct a mental picture of your personality. Language, as a reflection of the educational, emotional and social background, is premordial in this respect
