AT&T, if that is what you meant, originally stood for American Telephone and Telegraph, and can trace its history to Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone in 1876, although is was not incorporated until 1885. The company was broken apart into several companies in 1983, and the remaining AT&T split into three parts in 1996. Within the past year SBC, one of the companies spawned in the 1983 break up of AT&T, acquired AT&T, then adopted the AT&T name.

The current AT&T provides a range of telecommunication services ranging from local and long-distance telephone service, to wireless voice and data, to satellite television.

Sorry, I can't help you with leasing a line for the internet, but you might look into DSL (which AT&T would offer) or high-speed cable if you are served by cable television. Either of those may provide what you want more economically than leasing a line, but you will have to check your costs locally.
