Toss-up for me between The White Album & Revolver.

White Album b/c there's SUCH a huge variety of moods on it. Goes from good ol' rock'n'roll, to romantic/soft, to serious, to funny, to scary & strange. It's all there. Probably the album that best showcases the Beatles' knack for versatility.

Revolver becasue it show's the 1st obvious signs of the up-coming psychedelia w/o going over the top with it. It's such a brave album.

I think Revolver, it has stood the test of time. It showcases everything that was good about the Beatles, while still being 'accessible' to everyone. It was a very strong point in their career, and before the more extreme musical ideas crept in. Having written this I am now really torn - because I love Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - what a fantastic album!! And one of the first concept albums.

Gosh I just can't decide. HOW GOOD WERE THE BEATLES!!!

Right - I think Revolver is the best album for established Beatles fans, and Sgt Peppers is the best album for people who have not heard their music before.

Just realised I REALLY love the Help! album as well. Boo. Can't decide - sorry I didn't really answer your question. Beacuse if we are going for critical acclaim then the White Album (The Beatles) gets it.

Just off to dig my vinyl out now - oooh Here Comes The Sun!!

"Abbey Road" This album has inspired, influenced a new generation of songwriters and opened a fresh direction in music making. Even musical biggies like Billy Joel often admitted in interviews that 'Abbey Road' gave him the courage to be more free and to improvise more. The late Freddie Mercury said the same too; not to mention Dire Straights, Don Mclean and Outfield. I could could playback this album many times and enjoy it immensely as if I'm hearing the songs for the first time. That's my clue how good it is!!

"Revolver". It seems to mark a turning point in their music-writing, from sappy love songs to good ol' rock 'n'roll....
