Child is with parent who is verbaly abusive, and has been a control freak. The child want's to be with other parent is she allowed to make that choice. what can I do.

Each state is different as far as the age that a child can choose, however I would think the court would listen to a 16 year old. As long as the 16 year old can give just reason why he/she wants to live there, they will probably allow it.

I think that as long as both of the parents can support economically the child then he or she can choose the parent to follow, 16 is old enough to take this kind of decision
