It's not going to happen that the referee scores a goal; they are never close enough to the "meta." It could happen that they "unwantedly" prevent a goal, though, but still is very difficult. This is like hopping for a cop to run a red light without noticing.
Anyways, if it happens, I don't think it counts. The referee is supposed to be neutral in the field; thus, any move of the ball which involves him it's not to be validated, unless it doesn't affect the game.

First case: The goal is scored by the team that last touched the ball before the referee.
Second case: Goal shouldn't be scored, because others might have defended it if not for the referee.
Edit: I believe these rules should be applied for amical and local games. I think there will be a serious debate in a match such as footall worldcup (the referee might decide, who knows?)

I think it should count. The referee is like the gate post, the ball hit the post and bounced to the goal. The only difference is that the referee is a moving post, by experience he would never stand inside or close to penalty area. Therefore, players should look out for their mates, defenders as well as the referee.

if the ball hits the ref on any part of the pitch, then the ball is still in play,so if it hit him and went in net it would be a goal,if he stopped it crossing line play would continue as if a player had defended.
unlikely to happen though cos ref deliberately stays away from goal!

If the ball goes in off the ref its a goal and similarly if he deflects it away it is a clearance.
Incidently I saw an interview with a ref who once sent himself off for losing his temper!!

why is the ref that close to goal for it to deflect and go to goal? don't they usually sit out a bit, away from the play?
