That's a nice time to be there; the tourists will be gone, so you'll be able to visit the wonderful museums (Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum) without crowds.
If you're a smoker, go to some coffee shops. Avoid the Bulldog.
One touristy thing is nice: take the canal tour. You'll get a good sense of the city and spot things you may want to visit later. You can also buy an all day Canal Pass.
If you like improv, TVA and Boom Chicago have shows.
A must see is the Anne Frank House.
Have a great time. It's my second favorite city.

I have been there several times in my life, at the ages of 5, 8, and 18 with family, the last time I was over in Holland I was supposed to go to a museum with some of our family but never got around to it, I would have liked to have been able to do that. I did get to see several ruins of castles around the country on my second trip, I don't know where all we went though. I enjoyed the canal cruise I went on when I was there the first time. Below is a link that you can check it out what all is available for tourists, check out the 'city guide'. Hope that you have a good time.

Amsterdam has a lot of canals. I believe it called the Venice of the North. You can take city tours that include a bus ride and a canal ride through the canals. There are day tours to beautiful tourist spots like the Keukonhoff Tulip gardens, and to Rotterdam and Madurodam plus to typical scenic dutch villages with cheese factories and windmills and clogs
