Did he create monkeys first in his image and decide that they werent good enough? Or Perhaps God looks like a monkey, and we're a poor derivative?

Oh brother, some people think so highly of themselves. We do in fact resemble monkies and share a large part of their DNA.

Funny how asking provactive questions tends to bring out all the morons.

I beg to differ, an image is something you see. I dont recall having seen any spirits lately.

Maybe god is a monkey.

However, to be fair, I don't think the claim is about physical image so much as a mental or spiritual image, so we were made to be intelligent, powerful, and kind, I suppose.

Actually, what happened is this. God and his good buddy Satan were sitting around shooting the bull one day. So, Satan says to god: I bet I can make something you can't fix. God accepts the dare. So, Satan draws all the water on earth into the clouds. For a while, it looks like Satan has won, then god invents rain and the waters flow once again on earth. Then Satan says, best two out of three, so god says OK. This time, Satan draws all the air away and it begins to get very hot, god is miserable, angry, then gets a bright idea and invents wind. Satan says OK, best one out of three. This time, Satan invents humans, and the rest is history...God is still trying to figure out how to fix that creature.

The same reason pencils look like crowbars.

Are pencils in some way similar to crowbars? Derived from them? They certainly do have a similar shape.

Same reason that male genitalia look like mushrooms.
No idea why God made ol' Johnny look like a mushroom, but I'm sure it's the same reason I resemble a monkey.

On a more reasonable note, let's take a look here: God created a System. "The Universe" is the System in which we live. It holds the rules by which we exist.

A computer programer can also make a System. For example, I make simulations sometimes of, say, ecosystems. In these Systems there are rules, etc. Yes, I'm making a comparison between myself and God, so maybe I'm going to hell, but bear with me here.

Within this programmed environment, I have a certain way in which I set it up. Animals, due to the nature of the System, are likely to be similar in various ways. As a matter of fact, since I use C++ and since I'm sorta lazy (or efficient, as I call it), I'd use some OOP and derive certain objects from others. I'd probably do this on a lower level and a higher level. Why is it so interesting that God made both monkeys and humans, and that they look so similar? If I were to create a system, that sort of stuff would happen *all the time*. Aha, but if a *God* were to make a system, everything in it must be incredibly different and unique? I think not. I really don't see the fascination here. God created us in his image. He also made rats, for whatever reason, and for whatever other reason, he made monkeys. Some people look kinda like monkeys. Big deal? It's an efficient design. Why not repeat certain elements of it?

All the animals were created by the same God, that's why animals hold some similar characteristics. But I don't think you want to go around saying you look like a monkey.

Speak for yourself, I don't look like a monkey. God did indeed create us in His image as moral, emotional beings with a free will. That is how we are created in His image not physically.

Maybe God made monkeys similar to his image so we'd spend all these years trying to figure out if we are their descendants. :)
A test of faith. Or maybe those 6 days in Genesis were actually each millions of years and that was the process he chose to make us in his image?

God is divine.. period. he doesn't look like THIS or look a bit like THAT. He is who he is. those were actually his very own words. And dont be naive and act like you dont know that there is a part of you that is spirit, or for your sake should i say, your soul... The monkey has no soul. But from how you talkin, im not surprised to see you compare yourself to a monkey...

I don't know if you are talking about yourself or all of mankind! The rest of us look more like donkeys! No, I was joking.

The image of God does not mean the physical appearance. because God is Spirit and not a physical being.

Personally, I don't think I look like a monkey. I have far less hair, a much larger brain, and no fleas.
