data is stored as binary numbers using Integrated Circuits that contain millions of sets transistors and capacitors. when the capacitor is charged, it stores a 1, discharged it stores a 0. each capacator counts as 1 bit, and 8 are required to store 1 byte. the transistors are used to charge or discharge each of the capacitors.
