Doxycycline is a tetracyline antibiotic that kills certain bacteria that cause infection or stops their growth. It’s used to treat many kinds of infections of the skin, bone, stomach, respiratory tract, sinuses, ear and urinary tract. Doxycycline also treats Lyme disease, all forms of Anthrax and certain sexually transmitted diseases. For those who travel to certain parts of the world where malaria is prevalent, doxycyline can be given to suppress the disease. Doxycycline is the preferred medication for elderly patients exposed to all forms of Anthrax.

I am currently on Doxycyline for Lyme disease. It is the number one antibiotic of choice for Lyme. As said above you must be careful about certain drinks etc. I have to stay out of the sun. It also causes nausea with me so I eat a small snack with it, but do not drink milk. Other than that I have not had any bad side effects. I have had what is called a herx reaction, where too many bugs are killed and overflow the blood stream. Check the National Lyme foundation web page for info on that. Another good site if you have question about any meds or illness is,
www.webmd.com
its all there in one spot.
