My tastes run toward good solid Pop/Rock as opposed to big hair bands and the 80s jive of early metal. Metal didn't really mature until Kobain's influence in the 90s. In any event, here is the playlist of an 80s CD I made for myself a few months ago. The friends I've given it to have been very pleased by it.
01TheStones --- Start Me Up
02.38 Special --- Hold On Loosely
03The Police --- Every Breath You Take
04Kim Carnes --- Bette Davis Eyes
05Bryan Adams --- Run To You
06Cyndi Lauper --- Time After Time
07J. Geils Band --- Centerfold
08A Flock of Seagulls --- I Ran
09Paul McCartney --- Take It Away
10Eric Clapton --- Forever Man
11Heart --- These Dreams
12Don Henley --- Boys of Summer
13Richard Marx --- Don’t Mean Nothing
14Tom Petty --- Refugee
15Peter Gabriel --- Big Time
16Billy Idol --- White Wedding
17Madonna --- Cherish
18Huey Lewis & The News --- Power of Love
19Van Halen --- When Its Love
20Paul McCartney --- My Brave Face
Huey Lewis, Peter Gabriel, Tom Petty are all 80s standards. Seagulls and Kim Carnes had great one hit wonders in the 80s. Paul's My Brave Face (written, as we know now, while his treasured Linda was fighting cancer) is one of his best post-Beatle compositions. .38 Special was an MTV staple (and on that subject, Fleetwood Mac is on my second CD). 'Cherish' is one of only 2 songs Madonna ever did where she gave more energy to the singing than she did to the whore-image thing. Don Henley made his bones as a solo artist in the 80s. And, of course, the guitar riff in "Start Me Up" is so classic one can't believe it wasn't featured until that moment. Play these songs for anyone over 35, and they'll smile at all of them.
There's my list ... best to you.

your speakin' my language now honey. there are some good songs listed here already. I would like to add;
the B-52's, Debut album is a must have. The bolshoi, (away). David bowie, just about anything, but "Let's dance" came out around "83". Oingo boingo, any damn thing they mad is the stuff good uncomercialized badass music is made of. My favorite album is "only a lad" and "good for your soul". The cars, first five albums, self title "the cars", "candy-o", "panorama", "shake it up", and "heartbeat city". The dead kennedys, "holiday in cambodia". Depeche mode, a good all around compilation of theirs is "catching up with depeche mode". Devo, "are we not men, we are devo". Duran duran of course, "rio" is a must have album. the english beat, anything by them. If you like techno or industrial; try anything by these bands; "Front line assembly", "front 242", "skinny puppy", "birmingham 6", "hate dept". , Now, back to mainstream punk, and pop music. Peter gabriel, "security". Gene loves jezebel, "(come and get it ) Desire". Anything , and I do mean anything by "L7", or "Lunachicks". This may be slightly later than the"80's", but it is top notch "all girl punk". Ministry, oh yeah!! Ministry baby, nuff said!! The motels, "only the lonely", and "suddenly last summer". The normal, "warm leatherette". Pantera, anything by these guys. The police, any of their early albums are great like, "regatta de blanc", "outlandous D'amour", "zenyatta mondatta", "ghost in the machine", and "synchronicity". The pretenders, same thing, early albums like, self titled "the pretenders", "the pretenders II", "learning to crawl". Prince, yeah prince, he was good back then. Quarterflash, "harden my heart". THE RAMONES! nuff said!! Romeo void, "benefactor". Rush, anything and everything by these guys. Sex pistols, are right up trere with the Ramones. Siouxie and the banchees, "kiss them for me". The talking heads, well, let me just say that everything David byrne and the Talking heads did is freakin' golden. Download everything you can, I did. The 5,6,7,8's are a great japanese female trio, good stuff there. Thomas dolby, "she blinded me with science". Thompson twins, "lies", "doctor, doctor". The cure, all good. The smiths, all good. The violent femmes, all good, but debut album is a must have self titled "violent femmes". X-ray specs, Good pioneering punk band. Download all you can. Yaz, "upstairs at erics". Again, while not particularly "80's", Frank Zappa is a must have. Everything clean and dirty this man made is the reason why I listen to music...Hope this helped, I can think of more. email at "beastboy234@gmail.com" for more info on music.

Michael jackson/Madonna defined the Pop world in the 80's.
Various hair metal bands like GNR defined the rock of the 80's.
Everybody sucks.According to me ...move on to 90's there are more interesting stufff there. Ever heard of the grunge revolution...

Given your age Im guessing something by madonna could give you some choices in music and fashion. But I could be wrong and you hate Madonna. You might want to mention what style of music you prefer. That might get you some more acurate responses.
