According to Chinese folklore, it's supposed to ward off evil spirits. you wouldn't want others warding off evil spirits and have them go to your nice, peaceful place, would you? ;)
Either way, it's fun watching or lighting up fireworks. Just observe safety.

Not everyone lives near an area where they can see fireworks without the hassle. Even if there is a fireworks show in their area, they still have to drive through it, fight the traffic, put up with other people, and then sit outside in the heat and bugs. This way, they can have their own fireworks and control when, where, how long, what kind of fireworks, etc. they want to see. Kind of a private show.
And some people just really like fireworks.

Cause it's fun! My mom's boyfriend spends a couple thousand on fireworks every summer and we always have a good time putting on our own show. And the men and boys LOVE to be in charge of the pyrotechnics and my uncle is an ex firefighter so we are always safe. It's so much more fun when it's a private party - just your relatives and close friends in lawn chairs in someone's back yard, drinking a few beers with good food.
Who needs all the crowds and driving when you can stay home and enjoy the holiday with people you love instead of complete strangers? My mom's boyfriend can afford it too. I have more fun on the 4th of July than I do on Christmas and there aren't even any gifts! It's probably my favorite holiday to celebrate.

The fireworks are usually held by lakes where I live. The fireworks are certainly amazing, but it's hard to enjoy them when you're being attacked by thousands of mosquitoes and other annoying bugs. The mosquito repellent doesn't work. I have a strange fascination for miniatures also.

I guess because some people don't want to get dressed and ready to go out when they can buy their own fireworks they like the best and do it in their driveway or backyard. Its convenience and comfort for people who don't want to jam pack themselves around a bunch of strangers and can be with the people they want to and not have to fight for a spot to sit or see.

I think the idea of doing something against the law gives people a rush. Plus its fun and its something to bring the neighborhood together in a weird way. At least thats how it is in some Black neighborhoods.

My friend up in Canada bought those fireballs .They light up and are different colours.
You light up the stick and one flies out every couple of seconds for duration of about 40 secs. to a minute.
Really neat ,loud, colourful. The last bounced through the fence and ran up this garage in the alley(LOL)
No harm,no foul.

Because many people are losers. Also, many Americans simply do not want to learn about how great this country really is.

I find it hugely ironic that as we celebrate our Independence from tyranny, we are restricted by laws and local ordinances that call our traditional celebrations illegal.
