I believe that boys are taught from an early age that the things that they do or achieve are, in general, more important than the achievments of girls. This is due to gender stereotyping which has been and continues to be prevalent in our society. However do think that slowly but surely girls are increasingly being treated with more equality as people are more aware of the gender issues which surround the raising of our children.

Up the girls!! Or what was it that the Spice Girls said...... "Girl Power!"

In India, because of longer years of female suppression, girls are ready to be less proud as a part of their programming from childhood.

During vedic time, females had less rights. They are being asked to protect but at the same time asked not to give any freedom.
Then, during Buddha, he gave equal rights to males and females and told a female can achieve spiritually at a higher state as a male can and in that matter in any other field.

Then when Buddhism has lost its charm in India, again it went back to castism and female suppression, then Muslim rule, it never gave any right to females, Britishers just maintained the statusquo. The very slavery mentality is still there in female blood which will take some more time to match with Male pride.

Western society has come long way from victorian era. But, I saw females are still more compassionate and ready to leave their pride if the situation asks for (again majority with the given sample I analysed). Then we have to consider the situation as well. (But, let me tell you pride is nothing but not able to cope with the people around. It is actually a weakness.)

Honestly - I think it balances out perfectly!

I think with men, they have a higher sense of Narcissism and self preservation.

But I think women are just as prone to be prideful as men.

- - - - -

In the traditional sense a man must keep face, so in effect they take whatever steps necessary to keep face. It's a sense of honor and what not...

I think with women it is more of a case of fatherly influence. Women can be extremely prideful, but they probably learn it more so from a male role model.

So...strategically, they are even, but if you look at it closer...

I guess you could say that men ultimately hold pride higher in their list of emotional priorities!

I think that naturally, women have a more caring, humble demeanor and are more willing to sacrifice for their children. Where-as men tend to be more carnal (as nature proves)...being the bread winners and the alpha males over their households.

Boys are taught that in the end all you have is pride and you should stick up for it no matter what (the Japanese samurai tradition is basically this idea x 100)...it goes hand in hand with "big boys don't cry" and "men provide for the family, women stay with the kids"...

That is so not true. Look back on history girls have more pride are practical daredevils and have a lot more strenght than guys.
But girls and guys are pretty much the same except girls are cleaner and healthier.
