Assumptions are usually based on one of three things. Anecdotal experience, influence of others, disdain that is likely rooted in either jealousy or revenge over some real or perceived offense.

dumb blonde
Jessica Simpson, known for a dumb blonde persona, regardless of whether it is real or affectedDumb blonde is a stereotype, typically applied to women with blonde hair color, which achieved a degree of prominence in popular usage. Several notable actresses have been labelled "dumb blondes", Marilyn Monroe and Suzanne Somers (due to her role as Chrissy Snow on Three's Company) being perhaps two of the most notable examples. Dolly Parton is an example of a singer who used this image to her own benefit, singing songs such as "Dumb Blonde". Goldie Hawn is best known for playing a dumb blonde in several roles, including the stage persona she used on Laugh-In. Jessica Simpson is famous for her 'real life' dumb blonde persona, though opinion differs as to whether this is entirely affected, partially affected or simply her genuine personality. The bimbo is a similar stereotype, though a bimbo can have any hair color.
There is a common category of jokes that employ the dumb-blonde stereotype for their effect. They usually have a blonde asking the other person in the joke a very stupid question, only to give an even more stupid answer herself.
There have been conscious efforts to subvert the stereotype with blond female fictional characters who are intelligent and appropriately serious in demeanor, such as the character Betty Cooper from Archie Comics, Buffy Summers (the title character of Buffy The Vampire Slayer), and Jennifer Marlowe, the secretary from WKRP in Cincinnati (played by Loni Anderson).

Well.......honestly,they aren't the prettiest,so I don't think it's jealousy (because brunettes are philosophically in-depth).It is an observation of the blondes who thought they had to be that way (to be cute,or simply to fit the stereotype),and eventually ended up that way out of prolonged practice.Just don't let it bother you.If you know that you are smart, let it slide.People aren't assuming, bacause this is a generalization of what they see.If they do meet an intelligent blonde, they obviously won't assume she is dumb (maybe easy though, but that is a whole nother stereotype).

Because they ask dumb questions or pretend to be dumb to get their own way. If a blonde is smart she or ?he will soon prove they are smarter. Why then are the small weights men lift are called dumb bells ?

it's the media. Celebrities that dye their hair blonde tend to be really 'thick' and unfortunately they're also usually really pretty most of the time and tend to get more coverage. Take Paris Hilton for example...she doesn't even know the mechanics behind a well (my little brother knows how and he's 4)

Because blondes are beautiful and attractive. And people are jeaous. Also, lots of pretty people are dumb or pretend to be all the time not just occasionally for fun but because they think it makes them more desirable.
ps. i'm not blonde
