I agree with the above answer. People can interpret a "Jihad" in many ways... just like you could interpret the Christian Bible in many ways.

There are parts of the Bible that suggest that women are purely evil and that people should have their limbs cut off for stealing food...

The point is - if someone is crazy enough to believe and act on everything they read, it doesn't matter what they're reading - it will end badly.

No it does not but religion is often used for alterior motives. Not only Islam but christians and many other religions misinterpret teh scriptures for their benefit --the key words here are politics, power, greed
