Reading, writing, understanding and using the education language correctly.
=> In USA English is the most important subject, in France it is French, in Spain and most Latin American countries it is Spanish, in Portugal and Brazil it is Portuguese, in Austria and Germany it is German, in Poland it is Polish, in Hungary it is Hungarian, in Italy it is Italian, in Canada it depends on the education language and is either English or French as it is in Switzerland where it can be either French, Italian or German.

You need to know how to read and write to learn about other subjects. The capability of not only vocalizing the written word but understanding the content of a text is mandatory for learning about other subjects. If you can't read and understand you will have trouble with all academic subjects.

If we are talking non-academic subjects:
Interpersonal skills are most important. With good interpersonal skills you will nearly always find someone who will explain things to you or help you when you need help.

Mathematics is the underlying 'language' of the most important subject of all... PHYSICS. But without a good foundation in math the beauty of physics will forever be a mystery to you.
