I've noticed that white protestants are usually very distant from their families. While catholics and jewish people are closer.

Also seems that americans who eastern or southern european origins are much closer to their families than americans with west european origins. Even african and hispanic americans are closer.

So why do protestants and americans with west european origins stay so distant from their families?

i dont really know of any facts that support those idea, but i'm catholic, which stems from my fathers side of the family. my mother became catholic on her own later in life, she wasnt raised into it, and i know that my dad's family is a lot closer to each other than my mom's family (the protestant side).

and thats not to say that my dads side of my family are the devout perfect catholics. thats not even close to being true. but, they are close to each other.

hmmmm. i dont know if thats typical of catholic families or not.

Don't know for everyone. But my husbands Catholic - extended family are ALL very close. Even those living far distances from home make it a priority to visit, stay in touch. My mothers protestant family .... too busy with their own lives... never see or hardly ever see them... This is only my experience, not researched fact!

I don't think that's the case. At least not from my experience. I was raised catholic, married to both catholic and protestant women, five and three years respectively and spent sixteen wonderful years with a jewish girl and from what I could see, there was no difference when the clans gathered.

All families can be loving, if they want to.
